Clubs in League One and across the EFL have all begun releasing their annual retained lists ahead of tomorrow’s deadline for clubs not competing in the play-offs. One out-of-contract Peterborough United star could be set to depart after a short spell with the club.
Defender Tayo Edun linked up with Darren Ferguson’s side on a free transfer from Charlton Athletic on a short-term deal in January this year and has gone on to impress in his short time at the club.
However, it has now been revealed that the 27-year-old has now rejected two contract offers from the club and could be set to depart as a free agent.
Barry Fry Discusses Tayo Edun’s Peterborough United Contract
Director of Football Barry Fry has admitted to the Peterborough Telegraph that Posh’s current roster of four left-backs is too much for a club the size of Peterborough United and that is reflected in the offer.
“Three left-backs is too many for a club of our size, and we have four,”
“It’s too much of a drain on our budget. The manager wants Tayo, so we have offered him two deals, but he’s turned them both down.”
Harley Mills has also been offered a new deal, while Rio Adebisi remains in contract. Jack Sparkes, on the other hand, has been placed on the transfer list, just one year into his three-year deal.
Where Next for Tayo Edun?
That remains the question. there is still a possibility he remains at Peterborough United, but he clearly feels as though he has earned a better deal than is currently on offer. There will likely be several League One clubs who have been asked to be kept informed on his situation, ready to take the opportunity to bring him to their club.
He does have a huge amount of talent and EFL experience, and several clubs are on the look out for talented defenders this summer transfer window, so he will likely have plenty of suitors.
