Jimmy Dickinson is set to be appointed as Bolton Wanderers’ new head of recruitment after his recent departure from Plymouth Argyle.
Plymouth Live understands Dickinson has been on gardening leave ahead of being reunited with Steven Schumacher, who he has previously worked with at first Bury and then Argyle. There has been no official word from the Pilgrims about Dickinson, but head coach Miron Muslic declared he was ‘without a recruitment department’ during a press conference before the season-ending game against Leeds United.
“We have brought in very experienced external support to assist with recruitment operations during this period of transition. They have been working closely with Miron and the wider football leadership team, and our summer rebuild plans are in a very good place.”
When Ryan Lowe left Bury in June 2019 to take over as Argyle manager, he brought Schumacher with him as his assistant, plus John Lucas as head of fitness and conditioning and Dickinson as head of performance analysis
Dickinson later became the Pilgrims’ head of recruitment in June 2022, and now, three years on, is about to take on the same role at Bolton, who appointed Schumacher as their head coach at the end of January.
Wanderers finished 2024/25 in eighth position in League One, 10 points away from the play-off places. After Argyle’s relegation, both clubs will be looking to challenge towards the top of the division next term, so they could potentially be interested in the same players as new signings.
