Former Stoke City and West Ham Star Available As Free Agent This Summer

Former Stoke City and West Ham United winger Sead Haksabanovic is set to leave Scottish champions Celtic this summer after an unsuccessful loan spell at the Bet365 Stadium, according to reports.

The Montenegro international spent the entirety of the 2023/24 campaign on loan with the Potters, having fallen out of favour under Brendan Rodgers at Parkhead. However, his time with Stoke City was quite underwhelming as Haksabanovic made merely 22 appearances in all competitions and scored just one goal in what was a difficult season for the club that battled relegation in the Championship.

It was revealed back in April by Swedish outlet Fotboll Direkt that the Potters were not looking to sign the 25-year-old on a permanent basis once his deal with the Stoke-on-Trent club expired. Haksabanovic still has three years remaining on his contract with the European giants and the outlet further stated that Celtic were looking for a fee of £2.2 million for the attacker.

Now, Fotboll Direkt have reported that Celtic are still looking to sell Haksabanovic as head coach Brendan Rodgers sees no future for him in the team and that Swedish champions Malmo FF are closing in on a deal to bring him back to Sweden where he played his best football, having come through as a youngster with Allsvenskan club Halmstads. It is unknown how much the fee will be for the winger.

Haksabanovic moved to the London Stadium back in 2017 as a promising, young attacker for a reported £2.7 million, but will now likely return to his native Sweden for less than this figure seven years later, showcasing his lack of development.
