How Fosun currently feel about Gary O’Neil after Wolves latest defeat vs West Ham

Gary O’Neil is clinging onto his job at Wolves after his side suffered their latest defeat in the Premier League.

Wolves were beaten 2-1 by West Ham at the London Stadium on Monday, handing them their 10th league defeat of this season in just 15 games.

It caused ugly scenes at full-time as captain Mario Lemina was involved in a scuffle with Hammers attacker Jarrad Bowen, who tore the Wanderers apart on the night.

A defeat brought immense frustration to both the players and the Wolves manager as it not only condemned them to their third defeat on the spin but heightened speculation over Gary O’Neil’s future.

Supporters felt the 41-year-old should have been sacked after Wolves’ 4-0 loss to Everton and him keeping his job after dropping more points in the clash ‘El Sackico’ surely spelt the end of the road.

However, O’Neil has now updated fans on how the board are currently feeling about him in the dugout, and he was surprisingly optimistic.

What Gary O’Neil said about his Wolves future after West Ham loss

It’s unthinkable that a manager who has recorded just two wins on the board since April somehow keeps his spot in the hot seat.

This is a situation O’Neil currently finds himself in, with all eyes on Fosun in the coming hours as he decides whether to keep the Englishman in charge.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, O’Neil explained how the board currently feel about him, claiming they’re ‘supportive’ and he understands that he has to take responsibility.

“The people above me are supportive. But of course, the supporters want the football club to be successful and I understand they’re pointing the finger at me. It’s my team and I have to take responsibility for it,” O’Neil said.

In such a dire situation at the bottom of the Premier League, with Wolves four points from safety, it’s remarkable how the board are still on the manager’s side.

Wolves now must sack O’Neil to save their season

O’Neil was lucky to keep his job after the terrible loss at Goodison Park and now, Fosun must surely pull the trigger on his time at Molineux.

It’s clear that, while the Old Gold were improved at the London Stadium, O’Neil isn’t the right man to turn their season around as his players continue to make the same mistakes.

Wolves need to hire a manager with Premier League experience, someone in the mould of David Moyes, who is a battle-hardened top-flight veteran.

Failure to act soon could see Wolves plunged deeper into trouble, and with the January transfer window around the corner, they need to give themselves every chance of surviving.
