Gary O’Neil could sign Che Adams alternative in Wolves move for ‘magic’ £8m striker

It’s promising signs for supporters that the Old Gold have attacked their business early, with Gary O’Neil desperate to progress from last season’s 14th-place finish.

To continue making waves in the transfer market, O’Neil needs to invest in a striker as that was one position that caused him problems in 2023/24.

The Wanderers have been linked with a possible move for Che Adams, who is out of contract at Southampton this summer and won’t decide on his future till after Euro 2024.

Adams would be a solid signing on a free transfer but there is one player who hit double figures in the Premier League last season and O’Neil should consider him.

Luton Town striker Elijah Adebayo is available for £8 million this summer

Following their relegation from the Premier League, striker Elijah Adebayo has attracted interest from multiple clubs, including Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbache, Bournemouth, Everton and Crystal Palace.

According to The Sun, Adebayo could be available for £8 million this summer as Luton aim to offload some of their talent now they’re in the Championship.

The 26-year-old emerged as a sought-after talent in the top flight after hitting 10 goals, including strikes against Manchester City and Arsenal to go with a hat-trick against Brighton.

The Fulham academy graduate, who scored 18 goals in 65 appearances for Walsall before signing for Luton in 2021, could be a cheap option worth exploring.

What Elijah Adebayo would bring to Wolves

Wolves supporters may sniff their nose up at a striker from a relegated Luton side but Adebayo has shown he belongs in the Premier League.

A prolific taker of chances and a beast in the air, Adebayo placed in the top 12% for strikers across Europe for non-penalty goals and the top 29% for aerials won.

The London-born forward also shares comparisons with one of the most sought-after strikers on the planet, Benjamin Sesko, as per FBref.

Described by manager Rob Edwards as “magic” for his heroic performances for the Hatters last term, Adebayo isn’t just a lethal finisher of chances, he can also create them himself.

He ranks in the top 24% of forwards for successful take-ons, speaking volumes of his quality to burst past defenders with his languid running style and fashion opportunities for himself.

If his time at Luton was an audition for his talent, a move to Wolves can place him on an even bigger stage, with the chance to play alongside much better players.

With the creativity and skill of Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-Chan in behind the powerful striker, Adebayo would surely improve on his tally of 10 last term and become a big hit at Molineux.
