“God willing”: Lethal 14-goal sniper breaks silence on reports of summer move to United

Wolverhampton Wanderers star Matheus Cunha has responded to suggestions he could be on the move to Manchester United this summer.

United are looking to sign a striker as they aim to secure some help for young Rasmus Hojlund.

In the 2023/24 season, Erik ten Hag’s men struggled for goals and only managed a paltry tally of 57 as they finished in eighth position.

Only Hojlund, Bruno Fernandes, Scott McTominay and Alejandro Garnacho reached double figures for the Reds in all competitions. The club’s need for more firepower up front is there for all to see, especially considering Anthony Martial’s confirmed exit.

A player United were mentioned to be looking at is Cunha, who enjoyed a brilliant campaign at the Molineux. The Brazilian bagged an impressive 14 goals and eight assists in 36 games.

It was stated that United remain keen on doubling his £60,000-a-week wages at Wolves.

However, according to the 25-year-old himself, he’s happy at his current club and is not openly looking for a new adventure.

Cunha is currently in Brazil in his hometown of João Pessoa and the forward was in attendance to watch Serie C side Botafogo PB take on Athletic Club.

He was asked about a potential move to United but reiterated his loyalty to Wolves.

He told Globo Esporte, “Whenever I can, I come along. I always want to show that (the affection) is reciprocated.”

Then we see that talk (Manchester United). But I’m very happy at Wolves.”

He added, “My focus is on resting and making the most of my time with my family. I’m very happy at Wolves. The focus now is on having better seasons and helping the club.”

“God willing, I’ll continue on this path.”

It remains whether United will test his resolve with an enticing offer or they’ll be put off by his comments.
