‘Goodbye’ – PSG star leaves club amid QPR and Borussia Dortmund transfer links

Ethan Mbappe issued a heartfelt message of thanks to PSG as he looks for a new adventure.

Paris Saint-Germain youngster Ethan Mbappe shared an emotional statement on social media as he confirmed that he would depart the club as a free agent.

The 17-year-old signed a three-year deal with the club in 2021 and made his senior debut for the side as a 16-year-old in December 2023. The midfielder is the younger brother of superstar Kylian Mbappe.

The teenager had been tipped to make a move to Ligue 1 rivals LOSC Lille this summer but that deal is now believed to be off the table and leaves the player looking for a new club. Le Parisien had previously named QPR as one of the sides looking at a deal for the player, alongside Borussia Dortmund and Ajax.

Le Parisien wrote: “Other prospects abroad have also materialised with concrete interest in Ethan Mbappe, among them are Ajax, Borussia Dortmund and also Queens Park Rangers.”

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, Mbappe wrote: “With my childhood love and support since birth, I came to you with eyes full of dreams. Now seven years have passed and I never doubted that we would have such an adventure together.

“It was the beginning of seven years where my day-to-day and my heart were full of red and blue. Seven years of meeting people who have changed me forever. Seven years of priceless personal and sporting memories.

“From childhood inexperience to my first professional steps, you have given me the best foundation to become the person and player that I hope to be.

“For everything that you have given me, for all the amazing people that I have crossed and for how you have helped me grow, in the name of the love I hold, I say thank you and goodbye.”

Mbappe tends to be deployed in central midfield with his influence operating further back on the pitch than his well-known brother. The player made 35 appearances in all competitions last season, regularly representing the PSG under-19 side.

QPR are known to be in the market for a defensive midfielder this summer. Marti Cifuentes brought Newcastle United man Isaac Hayden in on a short-term loan towards the end of last season but he has since returned to the North East.

It is expected that the Magpies reach an agreement to terminate Hayden’s contract at St James’ Park to enable a move away, with the player known to be keen to return to Loftus Road. However, Mbappe would offer a younger and potentially longer-term solution for the R’s.
