Time is running out for Gary O’Neil at Wolves unless he can dramatically turn things around.
10 games into the 2024/25 Premier League season and the Old Gold are still without a win.
Wolves sit 20th in the table and four points from safety, making the prospect of a relegation battle very much a reality.
It’s a dire shame for the incredibly talented squad that O’Neil has at his disposal, putting pressure on the manager to turn form around and get Wolves where they should be.
Fosun’s stance on Gary O’Neil’s future at Wolves
From the outside, fans are seeing a squad perfectly capable of challenging in the top-flight, led by a manager whose tactics are questionable.
O’Neil has gone from hero to zero at Molineux due to his naive approach this season, putting pressure on the boss’ future at the club.
While loyal supporters made their frustration towards O’Neil known during the draw against Crystal Palace, it’s understood that Fosun and those above the coach have a different stance.
Writing for The Athletic, journalist Steve Madeley shared an insight into how Fosun are feeling about pressure on O’Neil to perform.
It’s said that the owners are ‘desperate’ for the Englishman to turn form around, due to the fact that the manager and his team were recently handed long-term contracts.
That being said, there’s reported to be some concern over O’Neil from Fosun’s viewpoint as if Wolves don’t beat Southampton, there’s debate over whether the board ‘can afford’ to keep him in charge.
Relegation is a real possibility for the Old Gold due to their dire start, with no guarantee of what the future holds in any aspect of the club, which is worrying.
O’Neil’s future could be decided by Southampton
Wolves had to beat Crystal Palace at Molineux on match day 10, which did not happen as a 2-2 draw played out.
While the players showed the fight required to come from behind to lead the game, there wasn’t enough to get three points, with Palace equalising later in the fixture.
Against Southampton, the stakes could not be higher as the prospect of going into the November international break without a win is nothing short of a nightmare.
Given Fosun’s stance, there’s little to suggest that support will be there for O’Neil if three points aren’t collected against the Saints, making the clash at Molineux a blockbuster.
