Ianis Hagi Rangers exit on the cards as Euro club boss makes transfer admission

Ianis Hagi could come onto the radar of Galatasaray after an admission made by their manager, Okan Buruk, on the Rangers ace.

The Romania international’s father, Gheorghe, is an icon at the Turkish giants, and the possibility of the younger Hagi now moving to Galatasaray could potentially become a possibility.

The 26-year-old attacking midfielder has found himself back in favour after being ostracised by Philippe Clement at the start of the season over a contract dispute at Ibrox.

However, Hagi has still been linked with an Ibrox exit this summer and Buruk made an interesting admission over Gala’s interest.

Galatasaray wanted to sign Rangers ace Ianis Hagi

Indeed, Buruk admitted that Galatasaray had previously been interested in a transfer to take Hagi to the Turkish Super Lig in a previous transfer window.

And, in quotes reported by the Daily Mail’s Rangers Confidential feature, Buruk hinted that a future move could be made by Gala to take him away from Ibrox.

He said, “During a previous transfer window, we were interested in him. He is a very good player. Unfortunately, he was injured in the past. But now he is okay.

“I know he’s playing well at Rangers now. I remember him when he was a child here at Galatasaray with his father. He used to be everywhere. He was sitting and watching the training.

“In the last two years, I have always followed Ianis. Now he is in good shape. He is a fine footballer with potential. I repeat, we were interested in him during a transfer period, but he plays for another team just now. Who knows? Maybe one day he’ll play for Galatasaray.”

Hagi exit seems inevitable at Rangers

Hagi looked destined for a summer exit when he was shunted aside to play in the B team after a contract conflict that would have seen an increase to his wages.

He was brought back into the side once that issue got resolved, and he has been typically influential with eight goal contributions from 15 Scottish Premiership outings but his name continues to be linked to an Ibrox exit.

Indeed, it was reported by Pescurt that Serie A side Genoa are interested in taking Hagi to Italy this summer, and the possibility of a departure is looking increasingly likely over the coming months.

Hagi’s Gers career was stunted by a serious knee injury, and he spent time on loan at Alaves after falling out of favor under Michael Beale.

On his day, Hagi is a hugely impressive performer, but it is hard to see a world where he remains at Ibrox long term. Whether that would be to move to Galatasaray remains to be seen, but you could certainly understand the sentimental links given what an iconic figure his father is at the club.

You sense there would be plenty of interested suitors for his signature, though, so expect to hear plenty of noise in the next few months.
