Indiana Fever Fans Convinced Star Player Will Be Traded After Viral Comments

There has been a lot of talk surrounding Kelsey Mitchell as her future with the Indiana Fever continues to be shrouded in doubt. The two-time All-Star is now a free agent and she could walk away from the team if she opts not to accept the Fever’s contract extension offer.

Indiana Fever forward NaLyssa Smith (1) Doug McSchooler/for IndyStar / USA TODAY NETWORK Doug McSchooler/for IndyStar / USA TODAY NETWORK Smith, who averaged 10.6 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game in 2024 as a starter, still has one more season left on his current deal before she becomes a free agent in 2026.

Mitchell is not the only star who could be on her way out, though. NaLyssa Smith might also be on the move after the 6-foot-4 forward found herself in a bit of a controversy after Indiana’s playoff exit against the Connecticut Sun.

For some reason, Smith decided to remove the Fever from her social media bio, while also posting a lengthy end-of-season message which more than a few fans saw as a farewell statement. On Sunday, the Fever posted a video of Smith reflecting on her 2024 season in Indiana.

The fans, however, were all saying the same thing about her comments, which as of writing, has already amassed 325,000 views in less than 12 hours since it was posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Fever fans did not hold back as they voiced their opinion on Smith and how they believe it’s only a matter of time before the 24-year-old is traded away from the team.

Fever fans did not hold back as they voiced their opinion on Smith and how they believe it’s only a matter of time before the 24-year-old is traded away from the team. “Time to trade Smith to the Sun,” declared a Fever supporter. “Good luck elsewhere,” said another.

“Not on this team, she don’t ” an Indiana fan stated. “Unfortunately it will be with another team,” another comment read. “Trade her,” demanded another. “I spent the entire season defending her, blocking people over her. I was wrong. Good player but not for this style of play.

And her girl causes big problems for her job at this team. I would never do this at my husband’s place of employment,” reacted a fan. For context, that last tweet was in reference to Smith’s real-life partner, DiJonai Carrington, who plays for the Connecticut Sun.

That was the same team that eliminated the Fever in the first round, and Carrington was the same player who was involved in a major controversy after inadvertently poking Caitlin Clark in the eye in Game 1. At this point, it is clear that more than a few Indiana fans have turned their back on NaLyssa Smith.

Whether or not this becomes a factor in her future with the Fever, however, remains to be seen.
