Middlesbrough striker Emmanuel Latte Lath is expected to be subject to transfer interest in January following a failed bid from Ipswich Town over the summer.
The Blues were looking to sign a striker on deadline day, leading to an impressive bid for the 25-year-old. However, with no time to find a replacement, it was rejected.
His agent, Matthias Veneroso, confirmed that ‘Ipswich made the big offer’, adding: “It was a strange time because it was such a big offer that needed consideration from everyone. That’s ultimately why he couldn’t travel to Cardiff with the rest of team.
“But, in the end, the club decided that they could not sell the player because they couldn’t face the season with just one striker. That was the club’s final decision.”
That could all change next month, however, as Veneroso believes that there’s every chance his client will be on the move.
“He’s back to scoring. Eight goals in the first part of the Championship and we expect something to happen in January,” he told TuttoMercatoWeb. “He is an attacker and the attackers are always the object of attention in the January market.”
Latte Lath has eight goals and two assists in 21 Championship appearances this season, although just 14 have come as starts due to the form of 22-year-old Tommy Conway.
That could open the door for the attacker to depart, with Italian journalist Gianluca di Marzio claiming that West Ham sent scouts to watch Middlesbrough’s game at Oxford United back in November. Latte Lath bagged a hat-trick and provided an assist in the first half of that game, which ended as a 6-2 win for his side.
With George Hirst out injured and Ali Al-Hamadi still adapting to life in the Premier League amid reported loan interest from the Championship, the Blues are expected to sign another striker in January, although it remains to be seen whether they will target the Ivory Coast international once again.
