Ipswich Town: Ex-Blue Brett Pitman leaves non-league Shaftesbury

Former Ipswich Town striker Brett Pitman has left non-league outfit Shaftesbury and is now a free agent once again.

The 36-year-old joined the Blues from AFC Bournemouth in 2015, scoring 15 goals in 70 appearances across two seasons.

He subsequently moved on to Portsmouth before having brief spells at Swindon Town and Bristol Rovers, dropping into non-league with Eastleigh in 2021.

Pitman made headlines during his time at AFC Portchester, bagging 44 goals in just 38 league games in 2022/23. His time at Shaftesbury has been even more succesful, bagging 62 last season alone as the Dorset-based side won promotion from the Wessex League Premier Division via the play-offs.

The travel commitments required to play at step 3 of non-league will be too much for him, however, as he currently holds a coaching role at AFC Bournemouth’s academy.

Posting on X [formerly Twitter], Shaftesbury said: “After scoring over 50 goals for the Rockies, and playing a major part in the clubs promotion to the Southern League, it is with regret we announce the release of Brett.

“Unfortunately, we were aware when signing Brett, that should we get promoted, he would not be able to commit in the higher league due to work commitments. Thank you Brett for a great season, and we wish you all the very best.”
