Jack Butland stance on summer Rangers exit mooted amid Ibrox transfer speculation

Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland is “happy” at Ibrox and it would take a “big fee” to lure him away from Glasgow this summer, according to Brian Reid.

The England international has been in excellent form this season under both Philippe Clement and Michael Beale and was the subject of transfer interest from the Premier League during the winter transfer window.

Recent reports have suggested the Light Blues are confident they can keep Butland at Ibrox ahead of the start of next season but Go Radio pundit Reid admits only “time will tell” if the Gers have once again become a selling club.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (9 May, 12:39) he said: “He’s done really, really well and like I said, it’s a massive position is the goalkeeper. He can keep you in games and win you games so if you want to go in and do well in a season you need that backup behind you.

“He’s done remarkably well and he’s on a long-term contract at Rangers so it will take a big fee to lure him away. Whether they’re a selling club, time will tell again but I think he’s happy there and enjoying his football so I’m not sure whether that will materialise.”

Will Rangers and Philippe Clement sell Jack Butland during the summer transfer window at Ibrox?

While most supporters would have had high hopes for Butland at Ibrox, few would have expected the Englishman to have such an excellent start to life in Scotland, especially considering his lack of recent game time.

But that good form will come at a cost and it won’t have gone unnoticed by clubs up and down the United Kingdom so it wouldn’t be a surprise if some big offers arrived for the keeper this summer.

Whether the Gers will be in a position to turn those down remains to be seen, but all signs at the moment suggest they are determined to keep their number one. Hopefully, their confidence has not been misplaced.

If Clement heads into next season with a stronger backline with the England international between the posts, the Light Blues will be in an excellent position to win the Premiership, especially if they also recruit in forward areas.
