Armstrong, 27, departed for Championship West Brom on loan for the rest of the season after again failing to adapt to life in the Premier League.
The promotion-winning hero contributed 24 goals and 13 assists last campaign but has been limited to two top-flight goals for the third time.
Saints sanctioned his exit with the Baggies making a big financial contribution, while Julic revealed he wanted to move to The Hawthorns.
Speaking to the Daily Echo, he said, “I want to say a big thank you to Armstrong because he’s an incredible professional, a great guy, and very positive.

“He explained to me why he wants to leave in one perfect way. All the reasons that he has in his head were really good.
“I really wish him that he will do well. Great guy, great player who I think we lose, but I think it was fair enough to let him go because he wanted to.”
Armstrong’s Saints situation will be reassessed in the summer, having penned a new deal to keep him at the club until 2027 in July last year.
The striker was not the only player whose situation was uncertain on deadline day, with Flynn Downes and Cameron Archer also subject to interest.
Both players were absent from the squad that won 2-1 at Ipswich Town on Saturday but remain at Saints for the rest of the season.
“For me, it was important to have professional behavior, and it doesn’t happen with everybody,” Juric added cryptically.
“Now is the moment to understand what we want, how we want to create the future, and to take the right decisions.”
Juric went on to confirm that Archer, who was said to be ruled out by a groin problem, is back in contention to face Burnley in the FA Cup fourth round.
“Cam is top; he’s working hard. He was a big professional the last week whether he was fighting to stay or go,” said the Croatian.
“He’s always training hard. I want to change a little bit of his movements, and I think he can improve a lot. This week he did really well with us.”
