Leeds United fans will hate official announcement ahead of Swansea City game

Leeds United fans will hate who has been selected to referee this weekend’s Championship game with Swansea City.

The Whites confirmed in an announcement on the club’s official website on Thursday (21 November) that Dean Whitestone will officiate Sunday’s (24 November) contest in South Wales.

That is bad news for Leeds, as Whitestone has refereed 10 United games down the years—each of those in the English Football League—and they have won just two of them.

The most recent of those 10 games came against Sunderland last season, as per Transfermarkt, with that match ending in a 1-0 loss for Daniel Farke’s men at the Stadium of Light.

There was a 1-0 win at Leicester City prior to that, but that is the only win Leeds have managed while Whitestone has been in the middle in their past nine matches.

That is a pretty incredible run when you think about it, stretching back to a 2-1 triumph at Plymouth Argyle in November 2006.

There has been a 1-1 draw with Yeovil Town, 2-1 losses to Leicester City and Blackpool, a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace, a 2-0 loss at Brentford, a 1-1 draw with Birmingham City and a 0-0 draw with Sheffield Wednesday since then.

That gives Leeds a record of two wins, four losses and four defeats in those 10 outings under Whitestone.

A coincidence it may be, but it is a pretty terrible record and one Farke and his men will be hoping to put right this weekend in what is a big game.
