Wolves expressed interest in several centre-backs in the summer, but ultimately failed to land one much to the frustration of supporters.
Max Kilman left the club early in the summer to join West Ham United in a £40 million deal.
Wolves had plenty of time to sign a replacement.
Players like Dara O’Shea and Nayef Aguerd were looked at late on.
But in the end, Wolves did not get anyone, instead changing their approach slightly at the end of the window and moving for defensive midfielder Andre from Fluminense.
Wolves are now in a worrying situation, with only three centre-backs available following the season-ending injury to Yerson Mosquera.
Wanderers will almost certainly look at signing a new centre-back in January – and it’s possible we could see the club try and sign Adam Webster from Brighton.
Wolves hold an interest in Brighton defender Adam Webster and could make January swoop

Earlier this week, there were some rumours circulating on social media about Wolves potentially having had a deal in place to sign Adam Webster from Brighton at the end of the summer transfer window.
Webster has been out of favor at the Amex Stadium in recent times. Last term, he only made 18 appearances across all competitions, although he did pick up an injury in November which ruled him out for several weeks.
There weren’t any suggestions during the transfer window that Wolves were interested in Webster.
But journalist Nathan Judah and Liam Keen spoke about him on the latest E&S podcast.
Keen has dismissed the claims that Wolves had a deal in place to sign him. However, he does say that there was, and still is, interest.
He said: “It’s one they could potentially go back for. Because he was a player they liked, a player that was discussed internally.
“But they never had a deal ready to go. To pull out of a deal, there has to be a deal in the first place, and there wasn’t a deal in the first place.
“As far as I understand it, there was no direct communication and approach to Brighton for the player either.
“He is a player they like and a player who was on a list, as well as several players they were looking at.
“They may go for (him) in January.”
Webster would be a great signing
So Wolves did not have any kind of deal in place to sign Webster in the summer, but seemingly the club still hold an interest in him which should excite supporters.
Webster has not been as prominent for the Seagulls in recent times, but he could make a very solid pick-up for Wolves depending on the asking price.
Webster – a £20 million signing for Brighton from Bristol City in 2019 – has great Premier League experience, having made 126 appearances in the competition.
Gary O’Neil is determined to get Wolves better at playing out from the back and Webster has been known for being a great ball-playing central defender over the years.
In January 2022, pundit Jamie Carragher said of Webster: “Adam Webster’s passing out from the back, with both feet is better than any other English central defender.”
He is a player for fans to watch out for. If he continues to not feature too much for Brighton, Wolves may well try their luck in January.
