Longo: Milan could hijack transfer of €20m left-back amid Roma’s inevitable delay

AC Milan needs to sign a replacement for Theo Hernandez this summer, and Maxim De Cuyper is one of their top targets for the position, as per a report.

After selling Hernandez to Al-Hilal for around €30m, including bonuses, which will help Milan a lot on the mercato, a replacement now needs to be signed. According to Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com, Club Brugge’s De Cuyper is one of the main candidates.

It’s a name that will be familiar to most Milan fans, seeing as the 24-year-old has been linked with the club ever since last year. Per the report, the left-back’s entourage has agreed with Club Brugge that a sale will be sanctioned if an offer of €20m arrives this summer.

Milan to hijack Roma’s transfer?

In the last few weeks, De Cuyper has been heavily linked with Roma, as the Giallorossi are determined to secure his signature, looking for an Angelino replacement. However, before they can make any concrete move, they need to sell the latter player.

Milan thus has an advantage in the race and could perhaps present an offer in the coming days/week. For now, however, full focus is on signing another Club Brugge player: Ardon Jashari. The midfielder has a significantly higher price tag at around €35m, making the negotiations tricky.

Then again, all it would take is for the Rossoneri to table a €20m offer for De Cuyper to beat Roma, as the player is more than happy to make the move as well. Perhaps a ‘double deal’ would make their life easier as well…
