Man United and Liverpool chase Bundesliga wonderkid as Wolves eye £63m transfer war-chest boost

Our round-up of the latest Premier League transfer rumours includes stories from Manchester United, Liverpool, Wolves and more.

The transfer window has closed, but the rumour mill keeps turning – and we’re back once again with our round-up of the biggest and boldest new Premier League transfer rumours.

Let’s star with a story from Caught Offside, who allege that Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United are all “in the transfer race” for Borussia Dortmund’s latest wonderkid – 20-year-old English winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens. Happily for all three teams, there is also every chance that they could get their hands on him.

Apparently, should Dortmund fail to qualify for the Champions League (they are currently in the bottom half of the table after a tumultuous season) then they would be “forced” to sell the youngster to make ends meet. Apparently Bayern Munich are “interested” too, however, so the Premier League big boys may not have any bidding wars all their own way.

The 3AM Verdict: Bynoe-Gittens has been drawing rave reviews in Germany, so expect stories linking him with a move back to England to crop up with regularity, much as they always do with Fikayo Tomori. Our media seem to struggle with the idea that a Brit might actually be happy abroad sometimes. But the idea that Dortmund could have a fire sale if they can’t turn their season around is probably accurate enough, and Bynoe-Gittens would be one of their best assets to offer out for auction.

Not that Bynoe-Gittens is the only winger owned by a German club that Manchester United want – well, at least not according to a story from Spain which has been picked up on by Sport Witness. They state that the Red Devils have been linked with Bayern Munich’s Bryan Zaragoza, who is presently on loan with Osasuna.

Bayern would want a permanent transfer for Zaragoza, and apparently the 23-year-old could be lined up to play a part in Ruben Amorim’s “major rebuild”, a process which looks like it could go on for quite some time. The working relationship between the two clubs after deals for Matthijs de Ligt and Nouassir Mazraoui could help smooth the ride.

The 3AM Verdict: Zaragoza’s move to Bayern hasn’t really worked out yet, and nor has his loan with Osasuna – he’s only managed one goal since leaving Granada. There’s talent there but he doesn’t seem like an obvious fit for Amorim’s system, and we’re not sure how much credence we’ll give this one.

Finally, we’ll catch up with Wolverhampton Wanderers – and check in on a story from The Daily Telegraph which details the circumstances under which star striker Matheus Cunha could leave the Molineux despite penning a brand new contract just a few days ago.

It seems that the Brazilian’s new deal contains a minimum fee release clause of £62.5m, which isn’t all that much higher than the kind of sums that clubs were reportedly considering spending on him in the January window. That will be of interest to Arsenal and Aston Villa, allegedly, who have the striker on their shortlists, although the report notes that were actually “no enquiries” over a deal in the end, despite endless stories to the contrary.

The 3AM Verdict: If Cunha continues on at his current career trajectory, then someone will eventually spend that kind of money on him, and one wonders if Wolves have set that a little too low – although with all the stories circulating about him leaving, we’re wondering if his representatives weren’t pulling out every trick in the book to get some better terms on that deal. The main thing for Wolves is that he’s signed it and won’t go anywhere for at least a few more months.
