Wolves have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Brazilian youngster Pedro Lima – and Matheus Cunha has already reacted to the news.
Last week, Wolves completed the signing of Rodrigo Gomes from Braga, who was the second addition after Tommy Doyle turned his loan move permanent.
And it looks as though Wolves are now set to make their third addition of the window.
Only days ago, Matheus Cunha had been speaking about Lima who was seemingly all set to join Chelsea. The Brazilian had admitted that he had wanted Wanderers to sign the teenager.
Now, Cunha has gotten his wish.
Matheus Cunha overjoyed as Wolves reach agreement to sign Pedro Lima
It was reported earlier this evening by respected journalist David Ornstein that Wolves have beaten Chelsea to the signing of Pedro Lima from Sport Recife.
Lima had been linked with a host of top clubs and the Blues were said to be the most prominent club in the transfer chase.
They had apparently planned to send Lima out on loan to their sister club, BlueCo-owned Strasbourg.
But Wolves have come out on top, and the player is now set to join on July 1.
It is stated that terms are in place for the starlet to sign a five-year contract at Molineux. And apparently, there is also an option to extend his contract by a further 12 months.
Sport Recife have made an official announcement about the move. They have said: “Sport Club do Recife announces that it has signed a binding agreement to transfer the economic and federative rights of athlete Pedro Lima to Wolverhampton Wanderers, from England.
“The agreement is subject to customary conditions, including the athlete’s approval of medical examinations conducted by the English club.”
Matheus Cunha, after admitting he really wanted Lima to come to Wolves, reacted with 25 words tonight to the club agreeing a deal to sign Lima.
Taking to his Instagram Story, he wrote: “Born in the same city, and now a teammate! I hope I can help with you adaptation and see you delighting out fans. Welcome.
Lima will be in good hands thanks to Cunha
So Wolves have reached an agreement to sign another player, and this one certainly came out of the blue.
Lima looked like he was on his way to Chelsea, but it’s Wolves who are snapping him up. One wonders what the decisive factor was for the youngster, and whether Cunha might have played a small role.
He clearly feels Lima is a fantastic prospect, and you would imagine that Cunha will be a really big help to him when he comes. Wolves fans know that the former Atletico Madrid star is a brilliant character and very personable. He is respected by all in the dressing room, and is bound to help Lima settle in.
And obviously at Wolves, there are a lot of Portuguese speakers. So that is going to be a big help.
Perhaps Lima also felt there would be more of a chance for him to play Premier League football sooner with Wolves than with Chelsea.
It is notoriously difficult for young players who go out on loan to break through at Chelsea, so perhaps he fancies his chances more with Wolves.
