Matheus Cunha has dropped a hint that he could be on his way out of Wolves. The Brazilian international, who has been in sensational form this season, has been linked with a move to Manchester United.
Despite Wolves’ struggles, Cunha has netted eight times and provided three assists in 16 Premier League games. The 25-year-old ended his goal drought against Ipswich last weekend, but couldn’t prevent Wolves from losing to a last-minute goal, which resulted in the dismissal of head coach Gary O’Neil.
Following the match, footage surfaced showing Cunha involved in a post-match scuffle, where he appeared to elbow an Ipswich staff member and take his glasses. The FA have since charged him with misconduct, potentially leading to a lengthy ban.
Wolves have dominated the news recently due to these incidents and the hunt for O’Neil’s replacement seems to be over. Al-Shabab’s head coach Vitor Pereira is set to take the reins at Wolves, with his appointment expected to be announced shortly.
Cunha’s strong bond with O’Neil at Molineux is well-documented, and it’s uncertain if he’ll stay put. His dazzling performances have sparked chatter about a potential switch to United, especially as he seems a snug fit for Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation.
Fuelling the transfer talk, Cunha himself has interacted with social media speculation. After bagging the Wolves’ Player of the Month award for November, eagle-eyed fans spotted that Cunha ‘liked’ an Instagram comment that teased, “Manchester United soon [soon emoji].”
A mid-season move could be on the cards, but a looming suspension might dampen United’s interest in a January deal.
The FA’s ongoing probe into Cunha’s conduct remains unresolved, and a lengthy ban could sideline him, robbing Amorim of the chance to assess his talents during the Boxing Day clash between United and Wolves.
