Gallen on Stephenson exit
Millwall director of football Steve Gallen has opened up on Josh Stephenson’s decision to leave the Lions to join Brentford. “I wish him well,” Gallen told Millwall TV. “No issues there with the lad. He’s a good football player and he’s gone off to Brentford. Good club. No issues there at all.
“But we did try. We made him three different contract offers. We had a lot of meetings with him, but because he’s young, mainly with his representative, his agent. I tried to sell that there is a pathway here at this football club. I think in the end they probably just didn’t believe that really, I don’t mean didn’t believe me, but they maybe felt that they hadn’t seen that before.
“If it was this summer, potentially you could use Romain for example as the one. Look here’s a lad who has started every league game for us this season, seventeen starts and obviously that wasn’t the case last year, six starts. He was young of course, that’s the reason. But now we can use somebody like Romain. But even of course Danny McNamara, Billy Mitchell, lads who have come through, but we can use someone like Romain and say to the next Josh Stephenson, look, you will get your opportunity here at this football club.
“Be patient, keep working. Maybe your pathway is out on loan and then come back and then into the first team. Of course it disappointed me that we lost Josh. At the moment that looks like it’s going to a tribunal between us and Brentford because we haven’t agreed anything, but he’s signed for them like he’s allowed to do and of course, we wish him well.”
Cordoba returns to face QPR
Johannes Hoff Thorup has confirmed that Jose Cordoba will be fit to face QPR after missing the last three games through injury. He said in an injury update during his press conference: “José Córdoba trained all week, so it’s looking good,” he said. “For Liam Gibbs, eight to 10 weeks is what we can expect here, but everything went fine with surgery.
“Surgery went fine for Josh Sargent, he’s doing well, but realistically it will be the new year when we see him next. He’s in a good mood, he was out there doing a little bit of running earlier but we have to be careful. We have tried to keep the flu going around away from the players, there is some illness within the group so we have to be careful. We’ve done team meetings a little different, making a little more distance between each other. There could be issues for team selections Saturday. Most of the players look alright, most of the players can train and we sent some home to rest, but most of them are fine.”
Farke on new signings
Leeds United boss Daniel Farke has refused to rule out January transfers. “In general, I’m long enough in this business that some strange things can happen”, Farke said in a press conference. “You can never rule it out. You have to react to the reality.
“It’s a while until the window opens and until then I won’t comment too much on speculation. We have eight games before 1st January. [It depends on] potentially some injuries to key players and how is the situation. If you ask me right now I don’t expect a busy January.”
