Newcastle United keen to sign Wolves winger Pedro Neto

Newcastle United are heavily keen to sign Wolves winger Pedro Neto in the summer transfer window, according to a report from The Telegraph

The Magpies are expected to face competition from Premier League champions Manchester City for the 24-year-old dazzling winger who was simply “sensational” this season for Wolves.

Newcastle finished seventh in the Premier League this season, and Eddie Howe will be looking to make a few changes to the squad.

The Portugal winger is facing an uncertain future and Wolves are bracing themselves for offers. After their £140 million-plus sales last year, Wolves are under no pressure to sell him, and they would demand a club-record fee in the region of £60m.

Should Newcastle move for Neto?

Neto has managed two goals and nine assists in 18 starts in the Premier League before he got injured. He returned to action on the final day of the season against Liverpool.

Neto is admired by a host of clubs, and Wolves could be tempted to cash in on him if the offer is right. Newcastle have concerns over Neto’s injury records, but they are checking him in case Bruno Guimaraes leaves the club.

The Brazilian is happy at St James’ Park, but he has a release clause of around £100m. If he leaves the club, the Magpies would be tempted to use the money to sign Neto.

Having said that, Newcastle has its own financial problems to worry about. They are close to breaching the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules and may have to sell a few players to free up space for new arrivals.

The Magpies are unlikely to make big-money signings unless there are major departures. Howe is looking to exploit the free transfer market, and Newcastle have been linked with a move for soon-to-be free agent, AFC Bournemouth defender Llyod Kelly this summer.
