Last summer saw a lot of players leave Leeds United. While some were poached by clubs after the Whites failed to win promotion, others left for completely different reasons.
A lot of players were out of contract after being signed to the club years ago. Especially youngsters like Ian Poveda and Cody Drameh, a long line of talents recruited under Victor Orta. The policy of buying young talent paid off, with Pascal Struijk and Crysencio Summerville as some of the standouts.

At one point in time, Gelhardt looked like the most promising talent in the team. The forward looked set to become a key contributor to the club, but it has not panned out. He has spent the past few seasons on loan, and could leave this summer.
Sky Sports commentator Don Goodman has warned Leeds that they will struggle to offload the youngster this summer:
“We’ve spoken about Joe Gelhardt before in terms of him being bought by Hull City, and he’s done okay,” he told FLW.
“I think we’ve described it as okay before, not spectacular, and an outlay of £3-4 million on a player that’s just done okay seems a little bit excessive to me.

This summer may see a number of the remaining players leave. Last week saw reports of Sam Greenwood, Joe Gelhardt and Darko Gyabi being made available for sale. The trio have not quite had a chance to break into the first team, and could all be sold for profit later this window.

“I think that’s the thing that would hold Leeds back in actually getting him off the wage bill is probably a price that not too many teams are going to be prepared to pay.”
Leeds reduced their asking price, and may need to bring it down a bit more to get a permanent move this summer.
Gelhardt needs to force a move away
The only way Joe Gelhardt leaves this summer is to push for a move. Just like how he forced a loan in January. His time at the club has passed, and at his age, he needs playing time to improve. Gelhardt still has a lot of potential, and could become a fine player later in his career. But if he stays at Elland Road, nothing will happen.
