Nottingham Forest are now closing in on two new signings as the January transfer window prepares to open.

Nuno Espirito Santo will get to work in terms of reshaping his squad after beating Manchester United 2-1 yesterday.

The Portuguese boss will have some targets in mind to improve Forest.

Now, it looks as though the club are set to get two deals over the line pretty quickly.

Forest were outstanding in beating United at the City Ground yesterday. Goals from Nicolas Dominguez and Morgan Gibbs-White ensured that the Reds went five points clear of the relegation zone.

Forest close to two new signings

According to The Mirror, Forest are close to completing two signings, with the club being proactive behind the scenes.

Nino is set to join from Fluminense, whilst Gelson Martins is the other player set to join.

Nino has been a bit of a saga when it comes to the interest from Forest.

He’s been linked with the club for a little while now and has also recently made his debut for Brazil.

He recently played for Fluminense as they lost to Manchester City in the final of the Club World Cup.

Now, however, he’s set to swap Brazil for Nottingham Forest sign for Forest.

The other signing will be Martins it would seem and he’s going to join the club from Monaco.

He’s not played so far this season and would be out of contract during the summer.

The 28-year-old still had bags of time on his side and he should prove a useful signing.

He boasts a great deal of pace and was a one-time target for Arsenal who had a bid of £26 million rejected.

Forest must focus on outgoings now

Signing a central defender and a winger early in the transfer window would definitely help Forest tick off two needed signings.

Now, the focus must quickly switch to getting players out of the door.

The squad is far too bloated and Espirito Santo will want to work with a streamlined squad for the remainder of the season.

Nino’s arrival, for example, could see West Ham step up their attempts to sign Joe Worrall.

Hopefully, Forest can ensure Espirito Santo gets his wish.

It’s never an easy transfer window to offload players during January but hopefully, some suitors can be sought for some fringe players.
