Nottingham Forest open talks to re-sign Keylor Navas

Nottingham Forest have opened talks to re-sign Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas, sources have told Football Insider.

The 37-year-old thrived while on loan at Forest in the second half of the 2022-23 campaign.

Navas returned to parent club PSG last summer but could now make a sensational return to the City Ground.

New Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo wants a proven goalkeeper who is more adept with the ball at his feet than current number one Matt Turner.

Turner dropped a high-profile clanger to allow Man United to equalise through Marcus Rashford on Saturday (30 December) but his blushes were spared by Morgan Gibbs-White’s late winner.

The United States international signed in the summer window, alongside second choice Odysseas Vlachodimos – who has also failed to make a positive impression this term.

Negotiations are now underway to take Navas back and Forest are hopeful a deal can be agreed with PSG once again.

The Costa Rica international is yet to appear for the French giants in the 2023-24 campaign and is behind Italy international Gianluigi Donnarumma in the pecking order.

He made 17 appearances for Forest last term, conceding 32 goals and keeping two clean sheets to help them secure Premier League survival.

The legendary shot-stopper has racked up 112 international caps and won three Champions League medals during his time at Real Madrid.

Nottingham Forest, who have won back-to-back games under new boss Espirito Santo, sit 15th in the Premier League table.

They are not in action in the English top-flight until 20 January, when they face Brentford.
