Nottingham Forest transfer rumours rated as €4m clause emerges and striker race intensifies

The Nottingham Forest transfer rumour mill has cranked into gear ahead of the window opening next Friday.

It is likely to be a fairly busy summer at the City Ground as the Reds prepare for a third successive season in the Premier League. Incomings and outgoings are on the cards in what represents head coach Nuno Espirito Santo’s first real chance to shape his squad.

Forest have been linked with a few potential signings already, while some players have been touted for moves elsewhere. Below, NottinghamshireLive gives our verdict on some of the big rumours.

Che Adams

Targeting a free agent striker with Premier League experience under his belt had the makings of being a fine bit of business. Perhaps it is no surprise that the Scotland international is apparently not short of options.

One minute the Reds were said to be leading the chase to snap up Adams at the end of his Southampton contract, then reports elsewhere suggested Wolverhampton Wanderers were set to win the race for his signature. The Saints had said earlier in the week they were in talks with Adams about a potential new deal.

Potentially a good signing for whoever gets him, but there appears to be a question mark over whether that might be Forest.Rumour rating: 6/10

Carlos Miguel

As with Adams, this is a rumour with a fair few twists and turns to it already. Developments in Brazil seem to have been fast-moving.

The Corinthians goalkeeper is said to have a 4 million euros (£3.4m) release clause in his contract. The Reds were reported to be ready to meet that, but that was also amid interest from Watford and a team in Italy.

It was suggested a switch to the City Ground appeared to be the Brazilian’s preference. But then it was claimed West Ham United had entered the race.

Miguel is not the only keeper to have been linked with Forest. How that area of the pitch looks come the end of August will be one of the most interesting aspects of this window. Will there be a new No.1 or just another back-up for Matz Sels in place? Rumour rating: 7/10

Murillo

The defender being linked with just about anyone and everyone could well be the theme of the coming weeks. His list of admirers is substantial. No surprise, given the way he took to the Premier League last term.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, PSG, Real Madrid and Barcelona are all said to have their eye on him. There may well be others interested.

The Reds value him highly. If offers do come in for him, there would be the potential to make a huge profit on the £11m paid to Corinthians last summer. If it happens it would be a reluctant sale, but Forest will know how beneficial it could be to their finances.Rumour rating: 8/10

Given Forest are being linked with goalkeepers, it follows that two of those currently on their books have question marks against them. The talk around Vlachodimos possibly moving on surfaced earlier this year amid suggestions the Greek was frustrated over his lack of game time. There is little chance of him turning the situation around to become first-choice Trentside, so an exit could well be on the cards.

But there is also a question mark against No.2 Turner’s future. According to The Athletic, he has interest from the MLS but the money involved might make any move tricky.

With Wayne Hennessey released at the end of his contract, Nuno has been left with Sels, Turner and Vlachodimos as his three senior goalkeepers. Although changes are in prospect, the Reds won’t want to be left with too much work to do in sorting out this position – particularly as they have other areas of the pitch in need of attention. Rumour rating: 7/10
