Nottingham Forest transfer update as Evangelos Marinakis completes move

Nottingham Forest-linked Gelson Martins is set to join Olympiacos, it has been claimed.

 

The Portuguese had reportedly been on Forest’s radar ahead of the January transfer window with Nuno Espirito Santo likely to bring in players in order to help him turn the club’s season around. Reports in Portugal claimed the club were in “advanced negotiations” to sign Martins.

However, he will now join the Greek club owned by Evangelos Marinakis. That’s according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano who claims the winger will sign a two-year contract until 2026 and Monaco will reportedly have a 10% sell-on clause.

 

 

Elsewhere, journalist Konstantinos Lianos adds that he is expected in Greece this afternoon to complete medical tests after an agreement was reached between parties.

The news prompted several responses from Reds supporters on social media. One said: “And so it begins,” while a second added: “This is because we are getting [Fabio] Carvalho.”

 

 

A third continued: “Makes sense. Given his lack of game time this season, the step up to the EPL made the prospect a weird one. Especially as Nuno wants to shrink the squad.”

Another stated: “Glad, I wasn’t keen to be honest,” and a fifth questioned: “I doubt if he was ever coming here. Doesn’t seem to be the right fit.”
