Pack your bags’: Penrith Panthers set for Las Vegas debut as NRLW plans revealed

Penrith are set to be the headline side to feature in Las Vegas next year, with the NRL likely to confirm the list of clubs in the next fortnight.

9News and Sydney Morning Herald reporter Michael Chammas confirmed on Nine’s Sunday afternoon half-time coverage the Australian Rugby League Commission will meet on Wednesday to discuss the submissions put in place.

The clubs in the mix are reportedly Melbourne, the Dolphins, Raiders, Newcastle, North Queensland and the Warriors – but it’s the Panthers who are in the “box seat”.

If I’m a Panthers fan, you’d be packing your bags for Las Vegas,” Chammas said

They are in the box seat to head over as one of the home teams to head over for that game next year at Allegiant Stadium.”

Melbourne, who would like to be the away team for one of the games next season, are also expected to be a front-runner to open up next season in the United States.

The Sydney Morning Herald also revealed Melbourne would like the match to be an away game for them, if they were to gain a spot.

The league are also considering sending two NRLW teams to America as part of a triple-header at Allegiant Stadium.

Chammas also revealed the NRLW is likely to be a 12-team competition in 2025 with the Canterbury Bulldogs set to be added.

The four teams who played in Vegas to kick off this season – Manly, Brisbane, South Sydney and Roosters – appear unlikely to head over in 2024.
