The offseason has been a lot of change for the New England Patriots. They brought in a new GM, head coach, and QB.
New England had eight total selections in the 2024 NFL Draft, including the No. 3 overall pick. They selected Drake Maye with the third pick but continued to add to the offensive side of the ball, nabbing seven total offensive players
After the three-day event, New England decided to part ways with a veteran.
Patriots News: New England Released a Veteran After the NFL Draft
The Patriots released OL Connor McDermott according to their official Twitter page. McDermott, 31, signed with New England last October and stayed on the team for the whole year.
He spent some time on the 53-man roster and made five starts at left tackle. In 227 offensive snaps, McDermott recorded three penalties while allowing 14 pressures and two sacks.
New England added to the trenches in the draft, selecting OT Caedan Wallace at No. 68 overall and G Layden Robinson at 103 overall.
Wallace is a powerful force who plays with violent hands at the point of attack. The New Jersey native looks comfortable in his pass sets and has the tools to be an impact player.
They also gave Mike Onwenu a massive three-year, $57 million extension this offseason. The tackles on the Pats roster are all younger and have higher upside than McDermott.
You can see why they decided to let him go and give those reps to their young, developing linemen.
