Philippe Clement comments at Rangers slammed ahead Tottenham and Celtic clashes

Stephen McGinn has slammed Philippe Clement for his comments regarding Rangers’ financial situation ahead of clashes against Tottenham and Celtic.

The Gers are unbeaten in eight matches in all competitions, a run which includes impressive wins over Nice in the Europa League and Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership.

With an 11-point gap on Celtic in the league table and a difficult clash in the Europa League, Clement has cited the club’s difference in budget, with fans accusing him of already making excuses.

Speaking via the Go Radio Football Show [10 December], McGinn said: “I don’t think you should say that, especially fresh off the back of beating Ross County. It’s never a great look when you start looking at finances.

“This week is all about Sunday for Philippe Clement. It doesn’t matter how many times you beat St Johnstone, Kilmarnock, and Spurs is a brilliant game to look forward to in isolation.

“But for Clement and his Rangers future, it is all about Sunday. A lot of fans have already lost faith in him so I can’t see where he goes if they lose to Celtic.”

Philippe Clement excuses emerges ahead of crucial Rangers fixtures

The Belgian has often been hammered for his excuses in recent weeks, especially as the Gers endured a difficult start to the 2024/25 campaign.

Despite things now getting back on track for the Light Blues, Clement still looks to be making those same excuses, knowing full well that supporters will be calling for his head if it all goes south this week.

The Gers must face Spurs in the Europa League on Thursday 12 December before a Scottish League Cup final tie with the Hoops on Sunday 15 December. It is an action-packed few days.

However, if Clement is serious about taking this team to the next level, these are the matches that they need to be competing in and coming out the other side with a positive result.

The manager is already under mounting pressure despite the influx of victories recently and a defeat to their biggest rival in a cup final could likely be the last straw for him at Ibrox.
