Philippe Clement sack prediction emerges ahead of Rangers v Celtic clash

Philippe Clement will know his time is up at Ibrox if Rangers lose to Celtic in the Old Firm derby on Thursday.

That is according to journalist Scott McDermott, who has predicted the worst outcome for the Belgian if his side are unable to claim a positive result from their biggest rivals at home.

Clement is under immense pressure, having been unable to win a single Old Firm derby since his appointment over a year ago, and recent history would suggest more success for Brendan Rodgers.

Writing via the Daily Record [2 January], McDermott said: He’s not daft. So at 5pm today, if Celtic have left Ibrox after plundering yet another victory against his team – the Belgian himself will know his time in Glasgow is up.

“If you’re managing one of these clubs at ANY time in their history and fall 17 points adrift of the other, your position is untenable.”

Philippe Clement finished at Ibrox with Rangers loss to Celtic?

Patrick Stewart has a very tricky decision to make if the Gers cannot manage a win against their bitter rivals on Thursday afternoon.

Under the Belgian’s reign, a 14-point gap has already opened up at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, and that could extend by another three points if the Light Blues taste defeat again.

Supporters are extremely frustrated once again, having seen an uplift in form recently, but all positive signs came crashing back down with a 2-1 defeat to St Mirren.

That was followed up by a disappointing draw against Motherwell, coming back from 2-0 down thanks to a second-half brace from Hamza Igamane. A defeat really would have put the writing on the wall for Clement.

He will now be hoping that his players are firing on all cylinders at Ibrox on Thursday, with recent history suggesting that Brendan Rodgers’ side will be ready to take all three points from their rivals.
