Plymouth Argyle man closing in on £600,000 Championship return

Plymouth Argyle goalkeeper Dan Grimshaw is closing in on a £600,000 move to Norwich City, according to Sky Sports (Transfer Centre, 02/06/25, 09:01).

Plymouth Argyle are heading down to League One and have already been active on the transfer front. PAFC has made three signings, which is why the departure of Miron Muslic has been a source of big frustration.

The Pilgrims have seen Muslic snapped up by German giants FC Schalke 04, but he is highly unlikely to be the only departure from Home Park this summer.

Players are bound to move on, some likely back to higher levels. And it seems one of the first to make such a move could be goalkeeper Dan Grimshaw.

Sky Sports reports that Championship side Norwich City are close to signing Plymouth Argyle shot-stopper Grimshaw in a deal worth £600,000.

It sees PAFC make back their money on the former Manchester City youngster, who they signed for exactly the same fee last year. Should talks between the buying club and player go as expected, Grimshaw could undergo a medical this week.

It is said that the Canaries are looking to revamp their goalkeeping department, and having played under reportedly inbound boss Liam Manning at Lommel SK, Grimshaw could be the first in at Carrow Road.

One year at Plymouth Argyle

Plymouth Argyle signed 27-year-old Grimshaw from Blackpool last summer. He was brought in under Wayne Rooney and shared starting ‘keeper duties with Conor Hazard.

Grimshaw’s PAFC minutes mainly came when Hazard was out injured over the first half of the season and served as backup for much of 2025. He kept just one clean sheet and conceded 56 goals in 24 games, but few would place blame on him for such a record.

The Mancunian was busy in between the sticks and offered little protection by the defense in front of him. It will be hoped that he is given a little more help at his next club, allowing him to showcase his on-the-ball talents and shot-stopping ability more.

Summer of change ahead for both clubs

Both Plymouth Argyle and Norwich City are in for busy summers.

While Argyle looks to build a side capable of challenging for an immediate championship return, the Canaries will be eager to push towards the top end of the second tier.

Both will be under new management too. As touched on before, Manning seems set to take the reins in Norfolk, but time will tell just how Muslic is replaced in Devon after his move to Schalke.

Bridges have certainly been burnt after affirming his commitment to the club, though many will point towards the stature of Schalke and the challenge in turning down such a job.
