QPR have been handed yet another injury concern ahead of Championship fixtures against Bristol City and Preston North End before Christmas.
Marti Cifuentes had already been forced into changes to take on Oxford United at Loftus Road on Wednesday night due to injuries. Striker Zan Celar and full-back Kenneth Paal were both sidelined with problems sustained against Norwich City, Rayan Kolli and Harrison Ashby coming into the starting XI.
The R’s made it two wins on the bounce and five games unbeaten with a 2-0 victory over the U’s in a bitty meeting that lacked quality at times. In the second half, midfielder Nicolas Madsen went into a full-blooded challenge against an opposition man and required treatment on the pitch. The player persevered but lasted just minutes before being replaced by Lucas Andersen.
Speaking after the match, Cifuentes said: “For the second game in a row, he gets a big impact around his ankle, shin, calf all this area. He was very painful so immediately when he went out he told me that he would try but that he was not feeling very confident. Hopefully, it will just be a knock and he will be ready for Saturday.”
That makes Madsen a doubt for this weekend’s trip to Bristol City. QPR then welcome Preston North End to Loftus Road on December 21 as the fixtures come thick and fast.
The 24-year-old signed for QPR from Belgian side Westerlo this summer and has come under criticism at times for his performances in the middle of the park. Speaking on Wednesday evening, Cifuentes praised the player’s development in recent weeks.
He said: “It’s a credit to the player that he is adapting and understanding what the league needs, in training and in games. He understands he can give us more in this part, which I think he shows clearly that he is improving.
“We want to see much more from him when we have the ball because he is a player we know has quality on the last pass, on getting to the second line, getting to the box and so on. We need to see more from him. The good thing is I see good attitude and he really wants to improve.”
