QPR make new contract decision regarding 2021 signing

QPR have handed goalkeeper Joe Walsh a new contract, as announced by their official club website.

QPR have managed to tie up a deal for the stopper ahead of the 2024/25 season. He was due to become a free agent at the end of this month.

Walsh, 22, has been on the books of the Championship side for the past three years.

After putting pen-to-paper on an extension, he has told the R’s website“I am really looking forward to the future. Over the last three and a half years I have worked hard and I have improved as a goalkeeper.

“Now I just want to keep improving and keep showing people at the club what I can do.”

He was handed his debut for the Hoops on the final day of the last campaign away at Coventry City as they won 2-1 at the CBS Arena to head into the summer on a high.

Keeping hold of Walsh is a shrewd bit of business by QPR and means they won’t be losing him for nothing.

He has potential to get better in the future and currently provides useful competition and depth to their goalkeeping department.

The Kent-born man rose up through the academy ranks at Gillingham before joining the Hoops in 2021.

He has since represented the R’s at various different youth levels and was loaned out to Hampton & Richmond Borough, Dorking Wanderers and Maidenhead United in non-league during his first couple of campaigns to get some experience under his belt.

The stopper then spent time at Accrington Stanley last term in League Two and went on to play nine matches for the Lancashire outfit before heading back to his parent club.

It remains to be seen whether Walsh will be able to push for the number one spot at QPR.

Asmir Begovic sees his deal run out soon and is yet to sign a new one.

Marti Cifuentes’ side have a big few months ahead on the transfer front as they look to bring in some more new faces to bolster their ranks.
