Rangers board branded ‘disgraceful’ by Keith Wyness after new twist

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted the Rangers board are a “disgrace” for their handling of redevelopment at Ibrox.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the story may go a lot further than a delay of building materials.

Rangers confirmed last week (20 June) that they could be unable to begin the new season at Ibrox due to material shipping delays.

Redevelopment works on the Copland Stand will take longer than expected due to the delays, with league and Champions League fixtures in August likely to be impacted.

The Glasgow giants assured fans they are “working intensively to ensure that all steps are taken to deliver the project at the earliest possible date and a further progress update will be issued to supporters in due course”.

Wyness slams ‘disgraceful’ Ibrox chaos at Rangers

Wyness hit out after Rangers complained about Dundee’s situation in the closing stages of the 2023-24 campaign.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Disgraceful is the word.

“The full story is coming out and it appears to be a lot more than just a delay in supplies.

“The full story is coming out and it appears to be a lot more than just a delay in supplies.

“I was involved in a lot of stadium projects, some of the biggest infrastructure projects in Glasgow – and for this to happen, it’s disgraceful from the board’s point of view.

“It was always going to be a risk in terms of overseas supplies coming in, and that goes on your risk register.

“Rangers, if you remember last year, were complaining about Dundee not being able to play on their pitch after severe rain.

“They made a very big noise, and now here we are with Rangers not having their ground playable.”
