Rangers have ‘no chance’ to keep Fabio Silva after Wolves man embarrasses himself in Scotland

Derek Ferguson has been left hugely unimpressed by Fabio Silva during his time at Rangers and has slammed the attackers infuriating “antics”.

The ex-Ibrox favourite says the big-money Wolves loanee hasn’t been a success and doesn’t think the club would want to keep him past the summer even if they had a chance, which he’s sure they don’t.

Silva, 21, has scored four goals in 20 Gers outings but has increasingly made headlines for the wrong reasons in recent weeks, after accusations of cheating in the 3-3 draw with Celtic (7 April) and an embarrassing missed chance where he fell over in the box in the 2-0 Scottish Cup win over Hearts at Hampden a fortnight later.

Ferguson has heavily criticised the Portuguese for his behaviour, admitting “I hate it”, and remains baffled at how Silva managed to fluff his lines in the cup semi final.

He exclusively told Ibrox News“No I don’t think he’s been successful. I’m trying to think of a game where he’s actually stood out and played really well. Maybe one against his old [rivals] Benfica, that was it. But apart from that no, I think he’s huffed and puffed.

“I was really excited when we got him, not only we had a £35million player, a young guy, 21-year-old, who should be hungry and want to prove a point.

“And he’s just not done it. At times some of his antics have got me tearing my hair out, but I’ve not got any to tear out.

“We’ve got [four] games in the league, we’ve got a cup final, we’re coming into the better weather, maybe he doesn’t fancy that, it’s too cold for him, but the weather’s getting a wee bit better, the pitches a playing a wee bit better.

“You’ve come up here and we were all expecting big things but you’ve got those games to show it, but please stop going down so easy.

“And that chance [vs Hearts], even the pace that you run at, the pass that comes into him, these top-level football players are athletes, you should be able to adjust your feet.

“What he was up to I don’t know, I really don’t. It must be a bit embarrassing for himself, Dessers should have just hit it anyway and got his hat-trick.

“You should be able to sort your feet out moving at that pace, adjust, realise that the ball’s coming to you. We need better from him.”

Rangers career threatens to fizzle out unhappily for Fabio Silva

If Rangers are spending big money on a loanee this season it would surely be Abdallah Sima.

Silva initially looked like he might be able to put in an unexpectedly effective shift as a central striker in the early weeks of his Rangers career, but in the supporting role he is supposed to be more suited to he has been increasingly ineffective in recent weeks.

His impact on loan hasn’t ultimately come close to that of Brighton wide man Abdallah Sima who has scored 16 times in 38 games despite three months out injured and has a greater chance of being kept at the club this summer, although he may prove unaffordable himself.

Even fellow January arrival Oscar Cortes arguably looked a better option in the seven games he managed before picking up his own injury, so barring a key role in landing silverware for the Light Blues before he leaves it looks like Silva’s time in Glasgow is set to end forgettably.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues have demanded a rival club give them thousands of pounds.
