Nottingham Forest are under no pressure to sell star centre back Murillo in January amid interest from Real Madrid.

The Brazilian has been a revelation since moving to the City Ground from Corinthians for just £11million nearly two years ago and has developed into one of the best young players in the Premier League.

Real Madrid are short in central defence after Eder Militao sustained a serious knee injury that will leave him on the sidelines for a long period.

Yet while there is an acceptance at Forest that Champions League clubs will move for Murillo, there is no financial imperative to sell him before the end of the campaign.

With Forest fifth in the table heading into the November international break, there is cautious optimism that they can push for European qualification this term and boss Nuno Espirito Santo is desperate to keep his squad together for the entire campaign.

Besides, Madrid’s mooted £40m valuation of Murillo does not come close to how highly Forest rate him. Any club showing a serious interest in the 22-year-old would likely to have double that offer to have any chance of success.

Forest’s start has been one of the surprises in English football this term. Nuno said: ‘I always say that we should enjoy and be proud of the way we are operating as a club. We want to grow in a very tough competition.

We are focusing on ourselves and improving as a team. We are going to regroup and go again and ignoring the same things: the table and the noise around us.

‘We are very proud that our players go to international duty, it’s recognition of their talents. We just hope they return healthy.’
