Sheffield United are interested in Norwich City striker Ashley Barnes ahead of January, according to reporter Alan Nixon.
Sheffield United are sure to be in the market for new signings when the January transfer window comes around and there’s a few positions sure to be considered as priorities.
Among them is up top, with options a little limited at times for Chris Wilder.

All of Tyrese Campbell, Kieffer Moore and Rhian Brewster have spent spells on the sidelines. However, the trio have all made goalscoring contributions too, with youngsters Ryan One and Louie Marsh also called upon when required.
Nevertheless, some extra depth in the Sheffield United attack wouldn’t go amiss, and it seems Wilder is out to add some real experience to his ranks.
Writing on his Patreon, reporter Alan Nixon says the Blades eyeing a surprise deal for Norwich City man Ashley Barnes. The 35-year-old has a level of promotion pedigree and experience few others can match and the door could open for him to make a winter move.
For the most part, Barnes has struggled for game time this season. As such, with his sizeable yet expiring contract in mind, the door could open for him to head to Bramall Lane.
A veteran addition
Sheffield United know exactly what they would be getting from Barnes if they were able to strike a deal to bring him in this winter.
He may not have been the most prolific of strikers in recent seasons, but his experience and leadership means he can also play a key role off the pitch. His physicality up top is sure to cause handfuls for Championship defenders too.
Barnes has 228 second-tier appearances to his name, many of which came with Burnley. In that time, he has notched 42 goals and 22 assists, also registering 42 goals and six assists in 200 Premier League outings.
Areas to strengthen
Sheffield United could do with adding one more body up top, potentially opening the door for one of One or Marsh to head out on loan too.
It seems inevitable that a winger is signed too. There are versatile players on the books who can operate out there if needs be but currently, loan man Jesurun Rak-Sakyi is the only natural.
Signing one who can play on the left may facilitate a return to the middle for Gustavo Hamer, who can cover alongside Vini Souza after Ollie Arblaster’s long-term injury blow.
