Sheffield Wednesday are currently embroiled in turmoil after the EFL charged the Owls and owner Dejphon Chansiri with breaches of regulations over payment obligations.
Sheffield Wednesday finished the 2024/25 Championship in a comfortable mid-table position, but their post-season journey has been nothing short of turbulent amid the EFL embargo placed on the club.
Club owner Dejphon Chansiri, back in March, failed to pay his Sheffield Wednesday players and staff, but the businessman paid in time to dodge potential punishments for the Owls.
Now, Sheffield Wednesday and Chansiri are facing a transfer embargo by the EFL regarding “non-payment to players.”
In the latest Owls update, it has been revealed that “emergency funding” that had been put in place has been taken up by some club staff members.

As things stand, the Owls are on the verge of the transfer embargo and could face a potential points deduction for the alleged breach of the EFL’s financial rules.
Chansiri could be forced out by the EFL if the organization puts the businessman through the Owners and Directors Test again, which he could potentially fail given the financial turmoil over recent years at Hillsborough.
The financial issues facing the club have left some non-football staff not receiving their full wages.
Now, The Star has stated that “emergency funding” put in place has been taken up by some staff members at Sheffield Wednesday, amid the club’s crisis.
Sheffield Wednesday fans have slammed Chansiri as “disgraceful” for his conduct as the owner and have been left fearing the worst after players went unpaid, particularly as this could cause a mass exodus from Hillsborough amid the summer transfer window.
As well as the Owls’ playing staff, another club figure who appears destined to depart is head coach Danny Rohl.

The German head coach is destined to depart Sheffield Wednesday this summer, and Rohl has been discussed as an option for Middlesbrough, following the sacking of Michael Carrick.
Rohl masterminded the Owls’ relegation fight last season in his first campaign and has stabilized the club as a mid-table outfit this term.
The 36-year-old has a release clause at Sheffield Wednesday, which is close to the £5 million mark, and as such will not come cheap for any suitors interested in his services.
With that compensation a major stumbling block to his departure, Rohl has shown his class regarding the comments he made on Chansiri, despite the financial turmoil at the Owls.

Via The Star, Rohl said, “I am still under contract, everyone knows this, but what is important is that we are respectful to one another, that we can look in each other’s eyes in both directions.
“It doesn’t matter how it finished; the chairman gave me a big, big opportunity, and I will always be thankful for this as well.
“He decided in a very difficult moment to take me as a young manager, to give me the opportunity, and I will never forget this. This is something special, the first guy to give me the opportunity and be convinced.
“This is the reason I will not complain about him or something like this. We had a journey together; we were successful, I think.
“We made good things together; some things we can improve. I can improve things as well. In the end it is the final decision for the club.”
