Sheffield Wednesday have been handed another injury blow, with Danny Rohl’s side boasting a fair few concerns right now.

Sheffield Wednesday are without a couple of useful first-team players right now in Olaf Kobacki and Akin Famewo, who are both sidelined with muscle injuries.

Famewo looks set to be sidelined until 2025 at least, whilst Kobacki could return for Sheffield Wednesday in December.

Elsewhere, Pierce Charles is carrying a minor knock right now, having missed the last two Championship games for Wednesday, whilst Josh Windass and Ike Ugbo have been nursing injuries as well.

During the festive period, Championship sides often pick up injuries as the fixtures start to come thick and fast.

Now, there’s been a reported injury to Sheffield Wednesday academy man Mackenzie Maltby, who’s been spending time out on loan at Scarborough Athletic who play in the National League North.

Mackenzie Maltby injury confirmed by Scarborough Athletic

Scarborough play in the sixth tier of English football, and they too are suffering from their share of first-team injuries right now.

On Thursday evening, the Seadogs confirmed that Maltby will be returning to Middlewood to receive treatment on a hamstring injury and that he’ll be ‘sidelined for a number of weeks’.

Scarborough ‘hope to see him in a Boro shirt again’, but it looks like Maltby may have already said his goodbyes to the club.

The 20-year-old centre-back appeared to say his final goodbyes to the Seadogs on Instagram, posting ‘Thankyou for everything’.

Mackenzie Maltby stats for Scarborough Athletic this season

Sheffield Wednesday sent Maltby on loan to Scarborough Athletic earlier in the season, with the sixth-tier side later agreeing to extend his loan spell with the club.

The Owls academy man went on to feature eight times in the National League North, scoring once for the Seadogs who currently sit in 17th place of the National League North table.

Formerly captain of the Owls’ U18s, Maltby is still awaiting his first-team debut under Danny Rohl, and looks as though he may be waiting a while longer given this latest injury blow.

What the Owls may plan for Maltby in the second half of this season remains to be seen and whether or not he eventually returns to Scarborough is likewise.

His Instagram post certainly seems to suggest that his spell at the club has come to an end.
