What Sheffield Wednesday head coach Danny Rohl said to Yan Valery and Ike Ugbo after their difficult moments against Burnley

SHEFFIELD Wednesday head coach Danny Rohl is backing Yan Valery and Ike Ugbo to ‘move on’ from their difficult moments in Saturday’s 2-0 loss to Burnley.

Valery’s mistake gift-wrapped a 37th-minute opener for Clarets winger Jaidon Anthony.

It arrived six minutes after Ugbo, still without a goal following his permanent arrival at Hillsborough in the summer, spurned a gilt-edged chance to put the hosts in front, heading over when totally unmarked in the box following Barry Bannan’s free-kick.

On Valery’s faux pas, Rohl said: “It happens in football and can happen in every position. When this happens in the last line, it’s a goal chance for the opponent or a conceded goal. But if you miss a chance in front, you wait for the next one.

“The outcome is now really like this when you make a mistake in the defence. You have to move on.

“I think he is ‘out’ of something like this now. He has to know this.

“As a team, with the second goal, we can defend the centre better with a different moment.

“But the main point for me is that we made a good (overall) performance. Not a correct performance, but a good one and you can take points (on another day).”

And on Ugbo’s miss just after the half-hour mark, he continued: “We know what he can do and he will keep going with this and the moment will come when he will score.

“As a striker, it is always hard when you don’t score, especially on Saturday when he had a big chance. This is football and our job that we stay together. We win together and lose together and improve together. We will come through and the momentum will come back, of course.”

Meanwhile, Rohl says that he is hopeful that Josh Windass will be available for Tuesday night’s home encounter with Swansea City.

The Owls attacker missed the win at Coventry just before the last international break with a slight injury issue and was again not involved in the weekend loss to the Clarets.

On the prospects of him returning against the Swans, Rohl, speaking at the weekend, confirmed: “It looks good and I think he will be available against Swansea. This is my information at the moment.

“The most important thing is to use the two training sessions (Sunday and Monday). In two days, it’s not so much training to make them ready. We look to get the best 11 on the pitch and we know we always have a bench with the quality to increase the intensity.

“This is what we need and the challenge this week.”
