Southampton will need a productive transfer window this summer, regardless of whether or not they are successful with their attempts to win promotion to the Premier League.

If they do go up, the Saints will of course need to add to their squad, to ensure they are competitive in the top-flight.

However, if they stay down, they may need to strengthen to ensure they can go one better next season.

Indeed, they may also need to replace key place who do get poached from Russell Martins squad, if they remain in the Championship.

Now, a new target for Southampton ahead of the summer transfer window, has been identified.

Southampton battle Premier League sides for midfielder signing

According to a report from The Sun, Southampton are now keen to sign Coventry City attacking midfielder Callum OHare in the summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old is out of contract with his current club at the end of this season.

As a result, he could be available on a free transfer in the summer.

It is thought that Southampton are therefore keen to bring OHare to St Marys, when he becomes available at that point.

The Saints had apparently been keen on him in January. At that point though, OHare is said to have been keen to see how things would play out with the Sky Blues.

For their part, Coventry City have offered the midfielder a new contract, and have not given up hope of keeping him.

That is despite the fact that the player himself has apparently made it clear he wants to move on in the summer.

However, Southampton are not alone in their pursuit of the Sky Blues star. Premier League sides Fulham and Everton are also credited with an interest in OHare.

An excellent potential Saints signing

This would be a really good piece of business for Southampton, if they were able to get it done.

Since returning from injury in October, OHare has been in excellent form for Coventry City.

The 25-year-old has scored nine goals and provided four assists in 24 appearances in all competitions this season.

That has already seen Coventry City manager Mark Robins describe OHare as incredible this season.

As a result, Southampton would be getting an extremely useful addition to their squad if they managed to get this deal done.

Indeed, the level of interest there is in OHare from the Premier League, highlights what a coup it would be for the Saints to get this deal done.

However, that also means it is likely Southampton themselves will have to win promotion this season, if they are to have a chance of securing the signing of the midfielder
