Aberdeen legend Joe Harper believes that Connor Barron can do a lot better than Rangers as he parts ways with the Dons.
This comes as the Daily Record reported on 12 June that the 21-year-old is expected to undergo his medical at Ibrox.
It’s understood that there are a host of clubs keen on signing the midfielder, even though the likes of Cagliari and Sassuolo have pulled out of the race, per the Daily Record.
Harper told Press and Journal on 14 June: “Aberdeen midfielder Connor Barron has the quality to land a better move than to Rangers. Barron is a superb talent and unfortunately the 21-year-old looks set to exit Pittodrie this summer.
“Barron’s Dons contract expires at the end of the month. He was offered a new deal by Aberdeen but has not signed it and he looks like moving to pastures new. Rangers are interested in Barron but there is also strong interest from clubs in Italy.
“A move to Bologna propelled the career of Lewis Ferguson following his £3million transfer to the Serie A club in summer 2022. Ferguson was named top midfielder of the season in the Italian top flight for 2023-24 which is a phenomenal achievement. Ylber Ramadani has also flourished at Serie A Lecce following his £1.3m transfer from Aberdeen last summer.
“Barron could do the same as he has the qualities to really make an impact in Italy. It will be disappointing to see such a talent leave Aberdeen but he could really flourish away from the Premiership.”
Rangers is the ideal next step for Connor Barron
Moving to Ibrox ideal next step for Barron as the club has a proven track record of developing young talents and providing them with opportunities to shine in the first team.
The 21-year-old, with his impressive performances for the Dons, has shown that he has the potential to become a key player for Gers.
Moving to Glasgow and competing for trophies would offer the Scottish midfielder the exposure that could help him further develop his skills and attract attention from bigger clubs in the future.
Signing Barron on a free transfer represents a low-risk investment for Rangers.
If he fulfils his potential, he could become a valuable asset for the club, potentially worth millions in transfer fees.

Philippe Clement will also get the upside in signing someone on a free transfer and he could be someone who challenges for a first-team spot from the get-go.
