Swansea City are plotting a move for Peterborough United captain Hector Kyprianou amid Matt Grimes’ impending unveiling as a Coventry City player.
That figure could well be reinvested into a deal for Kyprianou, who has emerged as a potential replacement for the outgoing Grimes heading into the dying embers of the winter window.
Swansea City transfer interest in Hector Kyprianou emerges
As per O’Rourke’s update, Swansea are considering a move for Kyprianou after sending scouts to watch the skipper in action in his side’s 1-0 victory over Wigan Athletic on Tuesday evening, where he came off the bench with under half an hour to spare.
Swansea’s representatives must have been satisfied with what they saw, though, and it will now be interesting to see if, and perhaps how, their interest materializes in the coming days.
Kyprianou made his 19th appearance of the league campaign against the Latics and has attracted attention as of late.

Earlier this month, Football League World exclusively revealed both Plymouth Argyle and Cardiff City—Swansea’s bitter rivals, of course—were interested in a move for the Cyprus international.
More is known about Cardiff’s interest, as WalesOnline additionally reported an initial inquiry from the Welsh capital side.
However, Cardiff looked elsewhere after learning the likelihood of Kyprianou running down his contract, which expires at the end of the summer, to assess his options and leave London Road on a free transfer, with Omer Riza recently completing a loan deal for highly-rated Ajax midfielder Sivert Mannsverk.
It is not yet clear whether Luke Williams is able to broker a deal to get him to the Swansea.com Stadium sooner.
Hector Kyprianou could be a good Matt Grimes replacement at Swansea City
Swansea’s interest in Kyprianou makes a great deal of sense, with the 23-year-old representing an impressively similar profile to Grimes.
Kyprianou is a deep-lying midfielder most comfortable in a double pivot, where he can use his reading of the game to screen the defense and break up play while also helping his side to dominate possession and dictate the tempo with press resistance and a composed, classy range of passing.
That’s the role Grimes carried out with remarkable consistency for Swans, while Kyprianou has also captained Posh at a young age and could promise to bring the natural leadership qualities that have recently vacated the club.
There is a void to be filled, with Grimes’ style of play central to the possession-heavy approach that has underpinned Swansea for so many years and is continually carried out by Williams.
Kyprianou, it would seem, is capable of filling that void and would be a shrewd signing in both the short and long term.
