The 5 O’Clock Club: Player Overs/Unders for 2024 – Commanders Linebacker edition

Published

on

The 5 o’clock club is published from time to time during the season, and aims to provide a forum for reader-driven discussion at a time of day when there isn’t much NFL news being published. Feel free to introduce topics that interest you in the comments below.

Bobby Wagner

Sure, Bobby Wagner is a little older, but fans who remember London Fletcher will know that sometimes age is just a number.

Since 2016, Wagner has played less than 1,000 snaps in a season only once; that was in 2018 when he missed a game — the only one he’s missed in the past 8 seasons. Bobby Wagner seems to age like fine wine. Last year, when he was 33 years old, he set career highs for snaps played and tackles made.

In his entire 12-year career, he’s never had less than 104 tackles (and that career-low number came in 2014 when he played in just 11 games).

Frankie Luvu

Luvu has played 6 seasons in the NFL, but he really exploded statistically in 2022 & 23. The expectation is that, playing for Dan Quinn & Joe Whitt, Luvu will be able to do even more.

Jamin Davis

While Wagner and Luvu are presented with opportunities that come with joining a new team, Davis returns to the team that drafted him 19th overall in the 2021 draft. His opportunity comes with a new coaching staff and scheme that will hopefully put him in position to have more success than he experienced in his first 3 seasons under Ron Rivera and Jack Del Rio.

We’ve heard reports from minicamp that Davis has been lining up at least part of the time as a pass rusher, and it’s hard not to think of how DQ & JW deployed Micah Parsons in Dallas. Davis is not Micah Parsons and he’s not a defensive end. He is, however, an athletic linebacker who could benefit from new coaching and scheme changes that include moving him around a bit and blitzing him occasionally.
