The big stumbling block in any Celtic move for Caoimhin Kelleher

Reports have again surfaced that Celtic have Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher in their sights as a long-term replacement for Joe Hart.

It was reported back in September that the Bhoys had enquired with the Anfield side about a move for the Republic of Ireland international during the summer transfer window.

However, they were told he was needed as a backup to the number-one choice Alisson.

Today, The Scottish Sun reports that Liverpool are making contingency plans in the event Kelleher ends up leaving the club with Celtic still keen.

The 25-year-old is thought to be interested in working under Brendan Rodgers at Celtic after years of being an understudy.

Caoimhin Kelleher looks expensive for Celtic

It was reported by The Irish Independent last year that Liverpool would want as much as £20m for his services. Whether realistic or not, it shows they aren’t willing to part with him on the cheap, with the player contracted until 2026.

Even on loan, there are issues. Football Scotland states tonight that Kelleher’s wages are out of reach when it comes to staying within Celtic’s established salary structure.
