Sheffield Wednesday are once again dreaming of Premier League football and here are three free agents they could sign to make this become a reality.
After a manic few weeks, Sheffield Wednesday can now sign players after their embargo was lifted earlier in November.
Danny Rohl has overseen a somewhat successful but inconsistent campaign to date with the Owls sitting 15th in the Championship.
With a third of the season now complete, it is still unclear where the club will finish in the final table. The Owls are only three points above the relegation zone but a good run of form could easily see them reach the playoffs, with only seven points separating them and sixth place.
The Premier League is no doubt the dream, and with money limited, free agents could be the way to find success.
Therefore, Sheffield Wednesday News has highlighted three players Rohl should look to sign in order to achieve this feat.
Brandon Williams
The English full-back was a regular on loan to Ipswich Town last season in a short loan spell that lasted until January before the Tractor Boys achieved promotion to the Premier League.
However, despite a successful first half of the campaign, Brandon Williams now finds himself without a club after Manchester United released the defender in the summer.
The 24-year-old was once believed to be a top prospect and still has plenty of time to reach his once-expected heights.
This could well be achieved at the Owls as the club looks to reinforce its inconsistent backline.
Ryan Kent
Ryan Kent recently became a free agent in October 2024 after his contract was terminated by Fenerbahce.
However, before his move to the Turkish side, Kent was considered a top player in the Scottish Premiership.
The winger was one of Rangers’ star players and helped the club reach the Europa League final in 2022.
With Ike Ugbo proving to be unreliable so far this campaign, extra firepower is needed to ensure the Owls have sufficient depth.
Therefore, when Kent is available in January, the winger could be an excellent addition and would certainly score a few goals if Rohl can help him return to form.
Nathan Ferguson
Nathan Ferguson could prove to be a risky signing but has plenty of big benefits if all works out.
The 24-year-old was once seen as one of the best upcoming talents in England when he helped West Brom win promotion to the Premier League in 2020.
The defender then earned a move to Crystal Palace but a series of injuries prevented his career from developing.
As a result, he was released from Palace in the summer after he only made one senior appearance. However, Ferguson is still young and is unlikely to demand a big wage package.
If Wednesday could secure the defender on a short-term contract, he could prove to be a valuable asset if he can remain fit.
The Owls’ defence has been inconsistent this season and additional reinforcements could prove to be extremely beneficial.
