Tonight’s Swansea City transfer news as boss makes Yates admission and Tymon fears played down

Here’s your round-up of all the latest Swansea City news for Monday, July 14

Bruce makes Yates admission

Blackpool boss Steve Bruce has admitted he would be interested in a move for Swansea City striker Jerry Yates this summer.

Having spent last season on loan at Derby County, and with one year left on his current deal, the striker’s future has been the subject of speculation over the last few weeks

Swansea are likely to listen to offers for the 28-year-old, but there’s nothing concrete on the table from anyone at this stage.

A number of Blackpool fans have nevertheless called for the club to bring him back to Bloomfield Road this summer, with Yates previously establishing himself as a firm favourite with fans in the north west.

Between 2020 and 2023, he netted 46 goals in 139 games, before then departing for Swans.

Bruce doesn’t seem sure a move is feasible, but admits Yates is the sort of player he would be interested in bringing on board.

“Everyone in the club likes Jerry Yates so I hear – he’s a bit of a cult hero,” Bruce told The Gazette.

“If he ever becomes available and he wants to drop down a division, then we would love to take him, but it might not be possible.”

Players head to Spain after friendly win

Swansea City’s squad have today headed out to Spain for a week-long training camp, as they continue their pre-season schedule.

It comes after Alan Sheehan’s side recorded a comfortable 5-0 win over National League North outfit Kidderminster Harriers in a behind-closed-doors friendly at the weekend.

The Swans ran out comfortable winners on the day, with Goncalo Franco netting a brace, along with strikes from Ronald, Zeidane Inoussa and Jisung Eom.

New signings Melker Widell, Cameron Burgess, Ricardo Santos, Ethan Galbraith and Bobby Wales all picked up valuable minutes, and will likely pick up more in the upcoming friendly with Stevenage at the Pinatar Arena in Spain this weekend.

Tymon fears played down

Meanwhile, Josh Tymon is set to take part in Swansea City’s preparations out in Spain, despite picking up a minor knock last week.

Rumours swirling on social media claimed the full-back had broken his ankle and was potentially facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

WalesOnline understands that while the 26-year-old did suffer an ankle issue, it isn’t believed to be serious, and he is likely to train as normal this week.

Whether he’s involved in this weekend’s friendly with Stevenage, however, remains to be seen.

First contract for Deacon

Teenager Callum Deacon has signed his first professional contract at Swansea City.

The 18-year-old has penned a deal to keep him at the club until at least June 2026, with the contract including the option of an additional 12 months.

Deacon has been with the Swans since under-10 level and has made his way through the ranks over the last eight years, although he unfortunately missed the majority of the 2023-24 campaign as a first year scholar due to a back injury.

He made his return to the pitch at the start of last season, and earned a string of appearances for the under-21s last season, including in the Premier League Cup.
