As Leeds United continue their push towards a hopeful promotion back to the Premier League, the Whites will be confident of taking all three points in their latest Championship clash this Saturday. Plymouth Argyle are the visitors to Elland Road with Daniel Farke’s men, and the supporters for that matter, no doubt hoping to return to winning ways after a frustrating draw at Bristol City last time out.
The Whites will start the match as clear favourites against Wayne Rooney’s team, who currently sit 18 places below Leeds in the standings and with 11 points less. It’s been a difficult start to life on the south coast for Rooney, but things are looking a lot more promising than a quick glance at the league table may suggest and Leeds need to be wary of that fact.
The Championship form guide over the past six games shows Plymouth in 16th, not 21st position, with an average of just over a point a game. It’s not a record to instil fear in opponents, but offers more than a suggestion the side won’t be pushovers when they come to Eland Road.
And one thing not being discussed is the fact Plymouth have already beaten a Sunderland side who have opened up a five point lead at the top of the table, plus picked up a victory against a Blackburn Rovers side who occupy a play-off place.
There’s no denying Leeds have a good looking run of fixtures on paper, but in coming from three goals down on Saturday at home to Preston North End, Plymouth have shown they’ve got some fight in them, as well as some goals.
While guarding against complacency, Leeds will of course fancy their chances to pick up a useful win, with three games in a week that includes a trip to Millwall and a home match with Queens Park Rangers.
