The first round of Euro 2024 fixtures are now in the books and we’ve seen some excellent games in the tournament so far – but attention shifts back to the fixtures in Germany, let’s take a quick break to review some rumours around West Bromwich Albion and their Championship rivals.
A young West Brom defender, who progressed through the academy since he was very young, is ‘weighing up his options’ after being offered a new deal by the club. If he does not sign a fresh contract before June 30, he will leave the Hawthorns as a free agent.
Meanwhile, a Manchester United legend has been linked with a highly-coveted job in the Championship – but he is not the only recognisable face in the race.
Ethan Ingram ‘weighing up his options’ as West Brom offer new contract
West Brom youngster Ethan Ingram could leave the club at the end of the month. While his contract is due to expire on June 30, he has been offered a new deal by the Baggies but he has not yet decided whether he will sign it or not.
West Brom are not the only club who have offered Ingram a deal. He has also been approached by clubs in League One, who would likely offer him a greater share of playing time. For all of Ingram’s talents, he is unlikely to become a regular first-team starter ahead of next season.
The report comes from journalist Dan Marsh, who wrote on his official X (formerly Twitter) account: “West Brom defender Ethan Ingram currently weighing up his options. 21-year-old right-back has been offered a new deal by the Baggies but also has options in League One and Scotland. Spent last season on loan at Salford.”
Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy linked with Burnley job
Burnley’s pursuit of a high-profile manager ahead of the 2024/25 season to replace the outgoing Vincent Kompany continues. Ever since the Manchester City icon departed Turf Moor to take on the Bayern Munich job, they have been linked with a slew of famous names – the latest of which is Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy.
According to a recent report from The Sun, Van Nistelrooy is thought to be on Burnley’s ‘shortlist’ of candidates – furthermore, he is also considered to be the ‘favourite’ to land the role as things stand. He isn’t the only big name on the list – Chelsea icon Frank Lampard is also believed to be in the mix.
Should Van Nistelrooy be given the Burnley job, it would not be his first role in senior team football management. Previously, the 70-cap Dutch international has managed PSV’s B-team and senior team – he has also been an assistant manager for The Netherlands in the past.
As a player, Van Nistelrooy is best known for his time at Manchester United and Real Madrid – he also played for clubs such as Heerenveen, Hamburg and Malaga. He was a prolific goal scorer on the international stage for The Netherlands, netting 35 goals over the course of 13 years playing for his country.
